

Joseph Dewitt Marcrum, Sr. passed away July 30th, 2017 at his home in Foley, Alabama after a courageous Fight with Pancreatic Cancer. Dewitt was born June 1st , 1937 in Gardendale, Al. He lived there until moving to Ashville, Alabama for a few years and then moving back to Gardendale and then upon retirement moving to Foley.
He was a loving husband, father, “Paw-Paw”, and friend to many. He was always sharing a smile or a cute joke to anyone who would listen. He worked several jobs, some being Clean Rental Services, Liberty National Insurance, and finally retired after several years with Marcrum Management Company. His passion job was being a self-taught carpenter where along with his wife they built and remodeled several homes in the Gardendale area, Gulf Shores, and Foley. Dewitt was a member of Gulf Shores Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Joseph Marcrum and his mother, Willa Ray Marcrum; and a brother, Gary Marcrum, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara Glover Marcrum; his sons, Joseph Dewitt Marcrum, Jr. (Robbi), Bobby D. Marcrum (Trisha), Terry D. Marcrum (Annette), Steven D. Marcrum (Tammy),; and a daughter, Barbara Dee Sharp (Steve); brothers, Randall Marcrum and Charles L. Marcrum; brother-in-law, Roderick Glover (Kim); seventeen beloved grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday, August 3rd, 2017 at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel at 2 PM with visitation beginning 12 noon until service time. Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Gardens in Gardendale.
