

Kathryn, age 91, passed away Wednesday, December 24th, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, John Thomas “Johnnie” Walthall, a son, James Carter Walthall, of Biloxi, MS, her parents, Allen L. and Judie J. Clayton, of Gardendale, her brother, E.M. “Bud” Clayton (Judy), of Clio Michigan, sister, Willene C. Smith (William P.), sister, Margaret C. Hughes, all from Gardendale, and a granddaughter, Mary Kathryn Pitts of Birmingham.
She is survived by two children; Dr. John Allen Walthall (Nina), of Springfield, IL, and Mary Flemming (Tom), of Birmingham, grandchildren, Joseph A. Holliday, Tracy (John) Tracy, Thomas A. Flemming, III (Amy) and David Clayton Walthall, several great grandchildren; sister, Vazelle Clayton Crawford (Norman), brother-in-law, E.W. “Junior” Hughes, several nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
Kathryn moved to Gardendale 31 years ago. She was a member of the Gardendale Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church. Her church mission was to help find sitters for those that needed them. She loved to travel. She was a professional business woman and worked at AAA Motorist Association and later at Vulcan Materials, where she retired. She was a member of The Club and the Red Hat Society and enjoyed doing civic work. She enjoyed life, friends and family. She leaves a host of friends and special longtime friends who were very meaningful in her life. She was a very loving and caring person and will truly be missed.
Services will be held at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel on Tuesday, December 30th, 2014 with a visitation to begin at 10:00am and a funeral service at 11:00am followed by her burial in Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the Gardendale Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church. Rev. Bill Wolfe officiating.
