She was a graduate of Mortimer Jordan High School. Mary Ellen was a life-long member of Gardendale First Baptist Church. She retired from Southtrust Bank after 33 years of service and was active in many professional and civic organizations.
Mary Ellen was preceded in death by: infant daughter, Kristi McCormick; parents, Louis and Ellen McAnally; husband, John R. “Bobby” Baker; brother, Gary McAnally. She is survived by nieces, Lisa Hawkins (Pike) and Leslie Gurganus; great nephews, Eric Tucker (Alyssa), Chad Tucker (Emily), and Kyle Hawkins (Cassidy); Great-great nieces and nephews, Macie, Ben, Brody, and Anna; stepdaughters, Becky Harbin (Mickey) and Jane Baker; grandsons, Gavin Harbin and Zac Harbin (Payton); great grandsons, Odin and Ozzy; sister-in-law, Mary McAnally.
Services for Mary will be held Sunday, March 9, 2025 at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071, with a time of visitation from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM; funeral service at 2:00 PM, followed by her burial in Moncrief Cemetery, Gardendale, AL.
