Mary was a graduate of Phillips High School in Birmingham and went on to marry the love of her life, Tom, while double parked outside the courthouse in Tupelo, Mississippi. Mary and Tom raised their four children in Gardendale, Alabama, where they built a successful flooring business. In 1978, they moved their family to Tampa, Florida, where Mary graduated from the nursing program at Erwin Technical College. Following her graduation, Mary spent the majority of her nursing career working in oncology, where she made a difference in the lives of numerous patients throughout the years.
Mary and Tom both had a love of travel, with one of their most memorable trips being a road trip from Birmingham to Tampico, Mexico, with her brother Sam, and sister in law, Ellen. After her husband Tom’s passing in 1996, Mary continued to fulfill their dream of traveling the world. She enjoyed telling stories of her traveling adventures, including riding a camel in Egypt, walking along the Great Wall of China, and hiking Machu Picchu with her daughters, Sheila and Melissa.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband of forty years, B. Thomas “Tom” Huddleston, her parents Paul Campbell and Mary Campbell Vankirk, and her brother Samuel Joseph Campbell. Left to cherish her memory are her children Jim Huddleston, Sheila (Michael Thompson) Huddleston, Melissa (Tim) Loutzenhiser, and Dave (LeAnna) Huddleston; grandchildren Charli and Jon Huddleston, Jordan (Carla) Davis, Elyce, Alyson, Samuel, and Jillian Loutzenhiser, and Wyatt and Nancy Huddleston. Also left to cherish her memory are her nephew, Jay (Lauren) Campbell who she often referred to as her 5th child; great granddaughter Ada Marie Davis; and brothers Joseph (Dorothy) Alessi, and Norman (Barb) Alessi.
