

Melanie Dawn McKinney Jones, 44, of Warrior, Alabama, went to be with her Lord on March 23, 2022. Born in Cullman, Alabama on February 1, 1978, Melanie married Bryan William Jones on November 9, 2002 and is survived by her husband and their two sons, James William (Will) and Benjamin (Ben) Archer.
She is also survived by her brother, Kyle Martin Baker-Winfrey from Argo, Alabama and parents James Ronald (Ronnie) McKinney and Rebecca (Beckie) Drinkard McKinney. She was preceded in death by Grandparents James Richard and Beverly Lois McKinney, and Arvel Troy and Ana Marie Drinkard.
A lifelong resident and fan of Gardendale, Melanie returned to Gardendale High School after receiving her degree in graphic design and spending several years in the commercial side of the business. A much beloved teacher and mentor to hundreds of students, Melanie embraced every one of her kids with a boundless love and passionate dedication through her various roles as Color Guard Sponsor, Rocket Club Sponsor, Black History Club Organizer, National Technical Honor Society Sponsor, SkillsUSA Sponsor, and Graphic Design Teacher, among others.
Melanie was a beautiful and unique blend of teacher, mentor, mother, daughter, cheerleader and best friend to everyone she met, and her profound impact on the community stands as an example of how fierce and selfless love can change the world.
A celebration of Melanie’s life will be held soon, and we invite the community to join us as we share the many ways that she changed our lives. Details will be announced in the coming days.
