

Odus E. Tate, age 87 of Mount Olive, AL went to be with his Lord on Thursday, February 9, 2017. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who was very much loved and will be greatly missed. He always put the needs of his family and community before his own. Odus was very active in his church as well as in his community. He served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher well into his eighties. He served on countless Builders for Christ missions, Meals on Wheels, and also served as Music Minister for First Bapt. Mt. Olive, Temple Bapt., Bethel Bapt., New Georgia Bapt., and Sharon Baptist Churches. Mr. Tate was a founding member of Mt. Olive Fire Department, and a “widow’s helper” cutting grass and repairing homes for so many people in the North Jefferson communities that needed his help. He retired from US Steel after many years of service and then started Tate Construction building homes. He built homes for his children and grandchildren and helped keep them maintained.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelous and Mable Tate; and brothers, Arnold Tate, Willard Tate, and Noah Tate. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Constance W. Tate; sons, Michael Tate (Patricia) and Larry Tate (Kellie); his daughter, Gloria Russell (Pete); brother, Alvie Tate; grandchildren, Scott, Amanda, Paige, Jacob, Brad, Jennifer, and Brandon; great grandchildren, Hunter, Chase and Caroline, Asher and Sophie Grace, Bryson, Baylee, Morgan, Rebekah, Jakob, Aislyn, Gavin, and Woods.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 11th at First Baptist Church of Mount Olive at 2 PM with visitation one hour prior to the service. Entombment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Gardendale. The family would like to thank the three special men who lovingly cared for him, Kevin, Chad, and Eric. Also, Bethany and Britney with Amedisys Hospice Care for their comfort the last two weeks of his wonderful life.Please make all donations to "Baptist Builders for Christ" in care of First Baptist Church of Mount Olive in Odus E.
