I used to live with my grandparents for some time, in that time of course I would go outside and back inside an awful lot, like most kids do. My fondest memories of my grandfather are always the same. I remember sitting on his lap and reading the paper to him when he was shaking so bad he couldn’t do it himself. I remember him trying his best to explain the birds and the bees when I had my first real girlfriend at the house. The proudest memory I have with my grandfather, is every time I walked through the door. Without fail he would salute me, the best salute he could give, then he would shake my hand with such a firmness that could only be respectful. I learned a lot about respect from my late grandfather, and I only wish that I slowed down to enjoy the salutes and handshakes more. I wish that I wasn’t in such a rush to read him the paper as a child so I could play.  I wish that I understood that you only get to make those memories once. Rest In Peace Grandpa.
