Ray H. Meadows

Ray H. Meadows, age 85 of Gardendale, AL passed away on Monday, December 16th, 2013. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who was very much loved and will be greatly missed. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Jewel H. and Margaret E. Meadows; brothers, Jim, Gene, and Sonny Meadows. He is survived by his loving family, his wife of over 67 years, Ruby M. Meadows; his daughters, Ann Harbison (Terry Don) and Freda Brundage (DuWain); grandchildren, Kristi Wix (Keith), Brandon Harbison (Kim), and Aaron Moore; great grandchildren, Tyler and Tanner Wix, Haley Sue and Bo Harbison, and Doc Maddox Moore; a sister, Betty Stewart; brother, Billy Meadows; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Ray was a quiet man who deeply cared about and loved his church family as well as his neighbors and friends. “Papaw” was the most loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather in the world. He was a member of the Forestdale Freewill Baptist Church and had retired from Harbison-Walker Refractories in Bessemer with 43 ½ years service. He proudly served his country as a veteran of the US Army. A visitation will be held Thursday evening, December 19th from 5 until 8 PM at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel with chapel services Friday beginning at 1 PM. Interment will follow in Moncrief Cemetery in Gardendale, AL.
