Buddy was born on June 22, 1950. He spent his entire adult life working in the natural gas pipeline industry, a career that reflected his strong work ethic, dedication, and pride in providing for his family. He was a man who believed in hard work, honesty, and taking care of the people he loved.
On February 27, Buddy and the love of his life, Donna, would have celebrated 42 years of marriage. Their life together was built on devotion, laughter, and unwavering commitment.
Buddy loved anything outdoors. Whether he was fishing, hunting, grilling, cooking, enjoying a cold beer, or “playing in the dirt” on his backhoe or tractor, he was happiest outside with his hands busy and his family nearby. He found joy in simple pleasures and in time spent with those he loved most. Second to family, one of his biggest joys was his Auburn Tigers. Until he got sick, he never missed a home football game in over 25 years. He used to say he has been and Auburn fan since 9 months before he was born.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Donna Belcher; his sons, Ray Belcher (Monique) and Eric Belcher (Carole); his daughters, Staci Assavedo (Chris) and Ashley Miller (“Nick”); along with 19 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews that meant a lot to him. He also leaves behind his dear friend, Frank Johnson, whose friendship meant a great deal to him.
The family would like to extend special thanks to his nurse Bradley and hospice aide Shanna with Access Hospice for the compassionate care and kindness shown during his final days.
Buddy’s legacy is one of hard work, deep love for family, and a life well lived outdoors under Alabama skies. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation on February 28, 2026, beginning at 10:00 am with a celebration of life to follow beginning at 12:00 pm. All services will be held at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071.
