

September 27, 1927 – April 3, 2014
Ray passed away Thursday, April 3rd, 2014 at the age of 86, just four weeks after the passing of his Wife, Betty. Ray was born in Birmingham, AL, and is a current resident of Smoke Rise. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, a Mason and he served as a Deacon of Smoke Rise Baptist Church where he was a long time member. Ray retired from U.S. Steel after 35 years of service and after retiring he worked at Shaw Building Supply for several years.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Betty, who was the love of his life; parents, Raymond S. Reid and Evelyn Kline; 1 grandson and a great-granddaughter. Ray is survived by children, Raymond S. Reid III (Dee), David L. Reid (Marsha), Kathy L. Brooks (Mike) and Johnny B. Reid (Jeanne); 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, and a host of family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel on Sunday, April 6th, at 2:00pm officiated by Toby Shedd with a visitation to begin at 1:00pm. Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Gardens. In Lieu of flowers the family request donation to Smoke Rise Baptist Church, Mission Projects.
The family extends special thanks to those serving as Pall Bearers; Jacob Reid, Matt Etheredge, Adam Madison, Wesley Dabbs, Jim Lawler, and Malcolm Morgan.
