Mike dedicated many years to serving his community through his work with the Homewood Police Department, a role he took great pride in. His greatest joy, however, was his family, whom he loved with all his heart.
Mike is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Joyce Evelyn Franklin and his daughters, Jennifer Franklin, Jessica Horsley, and Tiffany Franklin. Mike was a proud grandfather to three very special grandchildren — Kailyn Arnold, Kamryn Arnold, and Gunner Horsley — each of whom brought immense joy to his life. He is also survived by his brother Ferrell Franklin (Jean), his sister, Reba Pennington, a very special sister-in-law, Sheila Waldrep, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Elizabeth Franklin, nephew-in-law Neal Hollis, and niece Paula Pennington Jones.
Mike’s life was a testament to love, faith, and selflessness. His generosity knew no bounds — he gave freely of his time, his talents, and his heart to anyone in need. Whether it was family, friends, or strangers, Mike was always ready to lend a helping hand without expecting anything in return.
Mike devoted himself fully to his family, always putting their needs before his own. His unwavering faith in the Lord was the foundation of his life, and he carried that faith into every aspect of his journey.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to ProHealth Home Health and Hospice Care, as well as the dedicated doctors, nurses, and extended staff of Baptist Health – Brookwood. Their compassionate care, unwavering support, and kindness touched our family in ways words could never fully capture.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Mike’s memory to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s CNS Lymphoma Center, to support research and patient care for CNS lymphoma.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Services will be held at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel on April 29, 2025. The viewing for family and friends will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm with chapel services beginning at 2:00 pm. Graveside service to follow.
