Rose Reed, age 93, died peacefully on October 31, 2018 at home in Fultondale, Alabama where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law. She is predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Lawrence Reed, her daughter Joyce King, her parents David and Naomi McCleney, her brother Charles McCleney, and her sister Evelyn Goodwin.
Although she worked many years at Kress Department Store in north Birmingham, Rose was content being a wife and mother. She was a great cook and was known for her fresh coconut and devil's food banana cakes.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory a daughter Paulette Bailey (Greg), step-granddaughter Ruth Breda (Todd), step-great-granddaughter Miranda Killian (Adam), son-in-law J. R. (Doyle) King Jr., sisters-in-law LaVera Reed and Luthene Reed, and nieces and nephews. Special remembrance is made of her much loved friend, JoAnne (Dutch) Freeman. The family is especially thankful for the years of care and love provided by Margaret Jordan (our Marge), who made a difference and helped us all. Many thanks, also, to the staff and nurses and Chaplain Mensinger of Southern Care/New Beacon Hospice.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 3, at 1:00 P.M. for family and 2:00 P.M. for friends at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel on Decatur Hwy in Gardendale, immediately followed by the service at 3:00 P.M. Chaplain Ron Mensinger officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Cemetery.
