Shelly Marlene Crutchfield Ray, a spirited soul with an adventurous heart, passed away on June 28, 2024, at the age of 52. She was born on June 11, 1972, in Monroville, Alabama, to her loving parents William Edward Crutchfield and Pamela Rose Gunn.
Shelly lived a life filled with passion and curiosity. She adored her two dogs, found joy in ziplining, traveling, and skydiving, and had a deep love for pizza and the vibrant atmosphere of the Pepper Place Farmers Market. She was an avid reader, always eager to learn new skills and stay informed about the ever-evolving field of healthcare.
Known for her strong convictions and bold spirit, Shelly welcomed conversations—even challenging ones—by wearing outspoken T-shirts that sparked discussions wherever she went. She instilled in her daughters, Stacey Ray Gibbs (Jake) and Candice Ray, the values of independence, free thinking, and the importance of caring for one another.
To her three adoring granddaughters, Finnley Rose, Poppy Anne, and Saige Marlene Gibbs, Shelly was affectionately known as "Honey." She cherished her granddaughters above all else and eagerly embraced every opportunity for adventure with them.
Shelly is survived by her daughters, grandchildren, mother Pamela Rose Gunn, brother Mark Crutchfield and his family, and her dear friends who were like family to her: Christina Simmons, Diane Yates, and Kim Wiley. She also leaves behind a host of extended relatives and friends who were touched by her warmth and spirit.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Edward Crutchfield.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Children’s of Alabama or Two by Two Rescue, organizations close to Shelly's compassionate heart.
Shelly will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her unwavering love, adventurous spirit, and the impact she made on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
