It is with deepest regrets and a heavy heart to announce that Susan B. Carpenter gained her angel wings on October 19, 2022 at the age of 76. She is in her forever home free of pain and sickness that she has fought so hard and so long; I know she was welcomed in the grandest way and reunited with loved ones, especially her mother and father, her brother and brother-in-law. Born on February 1, 1946 Susan was one of God's most faithful and loyal followers, I don't know many as devout as she was! Growing up in a Catholic home, Church was very important to her. She served as the sacristan for many years, taught CCD to the high school seniors (they adored her!), and has always steered us towards God! She is a true servant to God.
Susan graduated from John Carroll High School and went on to graduate from the University of Alabama with a degree in biology and a lifelong crush on Ol' Joe Namath! She was speechless when he opened the door for her at a campus store! After graduating she went on to work as a researcher at Southern Research Institute until she retired. While still working, she went back to school and got her master's degree at UAB. She was at Bama gal for sure, crimson coursed through her veins! You could find her on game day wearing her gear which included her Bama Cucuy beads, filled with nervous excitement (mom wouldn't be mom without worrying about getting the W LOL).
It's hard to put all that she was into a sentence, paragraph, or even a notebook. She was "Squirrel" to Uncle Bill, "Su-sita" to the Bolin clan, "Kate" to Ken (Kate was quite the cheat at chess!), I called her "St. Susie", but what's best, I got to call her MOM! Best mom ever! Of course she had a nickname for my sister and I; Heather A.K.A "Rooney" even had a little diddy, and I Erin, was Ninsky". She was always coming up with cute things like that! She's the reason Parker calls me "Suki", which brings me to the name she LOVED- Mimi! And boy was she a happy Mimi hearing him say it for the first time!
Susan was always so full of life, a social butterfly you could say; very outgoing (no shy bones), kind, loving, and loved by all! She loved reading thriller/mysteries (loved John Grisham and Stephen King books), walking at Black Creek Park, church, but most of all dancing! From teaching while in college, on up to teaching country line dancing (where she met her husband Ken); she was even asked to choreograph her own dance and filmed for a instructional video. She even got her 15 minutes of Fame on national TV, dancing on the hit CMT show Club Dance! To sum it up which isn't easy because there was so much greatness in ONE human; Susan was #1 in our hearts, the absolute best wife, mother, mimi, sister, aunt and friend, to know her was a blessing and true gift. She will be missed more than words can express, but we are solaced knowing she's no longer suffering with sickness and pain in her forever home, with the one she never lost faith in and gave her life to. I know that St. Susie is looking down telling us not to be sad, that she'd see us soon, and to never lose faith in our loving God followed by something witty of course!
Susan is survived by her husband Ken Carpenter, two daughters Heather Bonham (Jeff Bonham), and Erin Wilson, grandson Parker Bonham, brother Bill Bolin, sister Karen Rogers, nieces and nephew, and sister-in-law Linda Carpenter. She is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Mary Ellen Bolin, brother Randy Bolin, and brother-in-law Ken Rogers.
Memorial Service will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton on Saturday October 29th, 2022, officiated by Father Ray Dunmeyer. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. and mass will be from 11:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m., followed by a reception in the Life center.
Gone for now, but forever in our hearts, until we meet again...
