Born January 2, 1928 in Brilliant, Alabama. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, was a Birmingham Fire Fighter/ EMT for 32 years, and owned a painting business for 35 years. Winford is survived by his wife of 62 years, Pricilla M./ Strickland; sons; Winford “Wynn” Owen Strickland II and David Keith Strickland; one daughter, Judith “Judy” S. Freeman (Lane); grandchildren: Winford Owen Strickland III, Daniel Gordon Strickland, Jessica Whitley, David Keith Strickland II, Lane Allen Freeman II, and Amanda Bowden; numerous great grandchildren; one brother, Gary Strickland; one sister, Gail Brewer; and several young people he considered his God-sent children. He was predeceased by his son, Gordon Bradford Strickland; parents: Clarence and Mertice Strickland; sisters: Vandean Logan Lamode Rose, and Thelma Fuller; and his brother, Logan Strickland. Visitation will be held at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, with a graveside funeral service on Thursday, June 28, 2012 beginning at 10:30 AM in Oakwood Memorial Gardens.
