Anna Ruth Streety Lackey was born on September 19,1934 in Paris, Texas and passed away on November 22, 2024 at the age of 90. She grew up in Paris with her parents, Gilbert and Ora Streety, along with her siblings, Reba Kirby, Jack Streety, Evelyn Seale, and Gail Alldredge on Bonham Street. After graduation from Paris High School in 1952, she moved to Ft. Lee, Virginia to live with her oldest sister, Reba and her husband, Kirby. While there, she met a young Army lieutenant, also from Texas, Marvin Lackey. After a brief courtship, they married on Nov. 4, 1955. When Ann passed, they had just celebrated sixty-nine wonderful years of matrimony. During the early years of their marriage, they traveled the world, living in Germany twice, Japan, Kansas, Virginia, Texas and more. Their eldest daughter, Nancy Lou Lackey, was born in Germany and a few years later their younger daughter, Lisa Ann Lackey Birkman, was born in Texas. Ann loved being an officer’s wife, attending and hosting many social gatherings. Throughout her life she was most happy at home, however, caring for her family and her pets, some of which she chose and some of which chose her by arriving on her doorstep. For many years, she fed the wildlife that lived along the river behind her home. All the animals knew they had a friend in her.
Ann had many interests throughout her long life, with family being the most important. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She took great joy in spending time with her three granddaughters, Ruth-Ann Eagle Toups, Elizabeth Shires and Ricki Birkman. In the last few years, her great granddaughters, Lillian, Amelia and Aurora, were the lights of her life. She especially enjoyed feeding everyone. Whenever her great granddaughters visited her, she always made sure to have a sweet treat for them. Ann was a wonderful cook and baker, known for her many homemade dishes but especially her King Ranch casserole, her pecan pie and her fudge muffins,
When Marvin moved the family back to his hometown, Georgetown, Texas, and retired from the Army in 1976, they bought and restored an old house near the downtown area on Main Street. They lived there for many years, then moved into her dream house on the river in the western part of town. For a good many of these years, Ann worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Euclid McLeod. All her family members knew they had to get their teeth cleaned regularly or else she would make an appointment for them! She was also active in her church, St. John’s Methodist, and community. At St. John’s, she was a part of the Women’s Circle, the Bereavement Committee and cooked a turkey for the Fall Fest for many years. She enjoyed being a part of the Red Poppy Garden Club as she could make any plant thrive. She was also a very faithful volunteer at The Caring Place food pantry, serving there until she was 87 and could no longer work there.
For the last two years, she lived at Grand Living in Georgetown with Marvin. Their caregiver, Angie, was especially kind to her.
Ann is predeceased by her parents, Gilbert and Ora Streety, as well as her brother, Jack Streety, her sister, Reba Kirby and her son-in-law, Rick Birkman and brother-in-law, Joe Seale. Left to mourn her passing are her faithful husband, Marvin Lackey, her daughter, Nancy Lou Lackey and her husband, Greg Eagle, and her daughter, Lisa Birkman plus her granddaughters, Ruth-Ann Toups and her husband, Nick, Elizabeth Shires and her husband, Ethan, and Ricki Birkman. Other family members are her great-granddaughters, Lillian Toups, Ameila Shires and Aurora Shires as well as her sisters Evelyn Seale and Gail Alldredge and brother-in-law, Ron Alldredge plus many nieces, nephews, and more.
Memorial donations can be made to the Williamson County Animal Shelter, 1855 SE Inner Loop, Georgetown, TX 78626 as she was a huge dog and cat lover or The Caring Place, 2000 Railroad Avenue, Georgetown, TX 78626, where she volunteered for many years.
A Celebration of Life service will be held for Ann at a later time.
