

Caroline Birdwell Patrick, 88, of Tucson, Arizona, died peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Wednesday, April 15, 2015. She was born to Jessamine Hale Birdwell and Seth Kilgore Birdwell on September 7, 1926, in Beaumont, Texas. Caroline received her B.A. at Southwestern University and married Dr. John Merton Patrick in 1946. They moved to Logan, Utah in 1957 where John became a professor in the English Department of Utah State University. Caroline received her M.A. in English at Utah State and taught in the Cache County school system as well as at Utah State. When John retired in 1988 they began spending half the year in Georgetown, Texas and moved to Tucson, Arizona in 2003. Caroline was predeceased by her husband Dr. John Merton Patrick (2006),her son John Michael Patrick (2008) and sister Lou Birdwell Parris (2012). She is survived by her children Peggy Patrick Medberry (Chauncey) of Ventura, CA, Stuart Raymond Patrick (Hanya) of Bellevue, WA and Caroline Patrick Birdwell (Kehaulani) of Tucson, AZ. Her grandchildren are Anna Catherine Estrada, Christina Elizabeth Garbis, Christopher James Patrick, Sarah Caitlyn Patrick, Zachary William Patrick Jones and her great granddaughter is Jillian Jessamine Garbis; Caroline is also survived by her sister Linda Birdwell Bullard (Marvin) of Beaumont, TX as well as many nieces and nephews. A mass was held in her honor at the St. Augustine Cathedral in Tucson on April 17, 2015. There will be a graveside service on June 20, 2015 at 10:30 am. at the IOOF Cemetery located behind Southwestern University at 701 Smith Creek Road Georgetown, Texas 78626.
