

Eugenia Mahone Harrell, aged 77, died peacefully on June 26, 2016. Born in Austin on July 31, 1938, to John T. Mahone and Dortha Wattinger Mahone, Eugenia grew up in Austin, graduating from Stephen F. Austin High School. She attended the University of Texas at Austin where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. She received a Master of Liberal Arts from Southern Methodist University.
In 1958, Eugenia married Donald L. Harrell at the Church of the Incarnation in Dallas. They lived in Austin and Dallas before moving to Georgetown in 1978.
She worshiped at Grace Episcopal Church, where she served on the Vestry and as a Senior Warden. She served as president of the Woman’s Club in 1992-93, and was a founding member Friends of Sarofim. She was an active member of Seeds of Strength and cherished the “No. 1 Ladies Book Club”.
Eugenia embraced leadership in the cultural community of Georgetown. She served as President of the Georgetown Heritage Society and as manager of the Main Street project. She and Donald renovated the historic David Love building on the town square in 1983. She supported the Georgetown Art Center and Williamson Museum, as well.
Eugenia leaves a legacy of many dear friendships beginning at childhood to the present. All appreciated her wit, dry sense of humor, calm demeanor and courage to face whatever was in front of her. Eugenia is survived by a large and loving family: her daughter Mary Lee Jonkers and husband Randy of Austin; son Reid Harrell and wife Lisa of San Antonio; daughter Louisa Chandler and husband Brad, of Austin; grandchildren Keegan (Mandy) Jonkers, Reid (Stephanie) Jonkers, Kelsey Jonkers Campbell (Dave), Rachel Mae Jonkers, Riley Harrell, Jack Harrell, William Harrell, Courtney Chandler, Meredith Chandler, Brent Chandler; nephew Richard (Erin) Donoghue; great grandchildren Ruby and Harry Jonkers, Penelope, Lewis and Rosemary Campbell.
The family is grateful for Eugenia’s caregivers who supported her and the family over the past 6 weeks: Sheila, Mary, Evettra, Brenda, Loretta, and Missy.
Eugenia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 54 years, Donald, and her sister, Louisa Donoghue.
Services will be held on Friday, July 8th at Grace Episcopal Church in Georgetown at 2 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Grace Episcopal Church of Georgetown or the Georgetown Heritage Society.
