During his early years, Homer went to school in Bartlett, Texas and later moved to Florence, Texas. On his first day of school in Florence, he met Bess. He knew when he saw her that she would someday be his wife. They eventually married in 1968. Homer was a hard-working devoted family man who always put his family first. He rarely missed his kids’ sporting events. This led to the school surprising him with a special award for his outstanding sporting event attendance. He also made sure to attend his grandchildren’s events such as swim meets, concerts, martial arts belt tests and many others. He enjoyed hunting with his son. He spent time talking with all of the kids, giving them wise advice on business and life.
Homer grew up on a farm and was driving a tractor long before a car. He loved to go fishing and hunting with his friends. After high school, he went to work for the Texas Highway Department and later joined the National Guard. After the National Guard, he began his long career in the road construction industry. He worked for the Texas Highway Department, Capitol Aggregates, Mr. Wheeler, and several other labs. Homer had a real estate license and invested in properties. In addition, he served for several years as a deacon at church. After retirement, he spent his time stock market day trading. He also enjoyed feeding his birds and would sit and watch them in the morning.
Homer is preceded in death by his parents, John Dean Henry and Arta Meta Henry, and his nephew Jimmy Nations. He is survived by his wife, Bess Henry, son Roy Henry (wife Jeannie and daughters Kaylie, Rylie, Addison and Elliana), daughter Debbie Showalter (husband Wayne, daughter Jordan and son Dustin), and daughter Angela Miller (daughter Megan and son Mason) as well as 3 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Homer was a good man who lived by the philosophy that you do the right thing, no matter how you feel. He believed that words were meaningless unless backed by action. He will be deeply missed.
