
Janet Reeve Russell of Georgetown died on Monday, June 28, 2010. She was born in Bruce, Mississippi, on August 15, 1943 to Harold and Ruth Reeve and grew up in St. Joseph, Missouri, where she began studying piano at age nine. In 1964 she earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Park College. Mrs. Russell went on to teach piano to generations of children until shortly before her death and judged piano festivals and competitions. She was a member of the Georgetown Music Study Club and Austin District Music Teachers Association (ADMTA) and served as president of each organization. In 2004 she was elected ADMTA Teacher of the Year. On August 14, 1965 she married Roland Russell, who survives her. They moved to Georgetown in 1977. Mrs. Russell was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law Robert and Velvadeen Russell, brother-in-law Donald Russell, and son-in-law Les Rose. In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter Sara Anbari, husband Alan, and grandson Aren of Austin, daughter Samantha Rose and grandson Russell of Plano, sister Judy Slaughter and husband Irl of Bethany, Missouri, brother George Reeve and wife Karen of Joplin, Missouri, sister-in-law Mary Ellen Russell of Kansas City, sisters-in-law Joan and Nola Russell of St. Joseph, Missouri, brother-in-law Max Russell and wife Jennifer of St. Joseph, Missouri, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 on July 6, 2010 at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel, 393 N. IH-35, Georgetown, officiated by Pastor David Gauthier.
