Jess Willard Jackson passed away on December 9, 2020 in Georgetown, Texas at the age of 97 years. He was born in Florence, Texas on June 30, 1923, the only son of six children to Tom and Eula Jackson. Jess grew up in South Texas working on the family farm and graduating from Taft High School. He served two years in the Army stationed in Burma. After his discharge from the Army, he married Anna Belle Forster in 1949, enjoying 66 years together.
With a hard work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit, Jess was not afraid of venturing into self employed business endeavors. Early in his marriage, he owned and operated Humble Wholesale Oil and two service stations. Several years later he purchased the Whataburger #33 franchise in Houston. Then in 1967 he founded Mytiburger where he owned four restaurants in the Houston area, two of which are still in operation.
Jess retired early so he and Ann could travel the country in their RV, making new friends everywhere they went. He loved watching the Houston Astros, football and bowling with family and friends. He never met a stranger, always had a smile and was a good friend to those he knew. Jess truly personified the saying “Live, Laugh, Love”.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife and five sisters, Jo Seay, Dorothy Smith, Hazel Custer, Bertie McCoy and Ruth Nelson. He is survived by his daughter Diann Jackson Grein and her husband James. A memorial service will be held at a future date.
