Josephine “Josie” Ramirez was born August 11,1928 in Georgetown, Texas to Pedro and Amelia (Ashton) Ramirez and was called to her eternal home on September 15, 2023; at the age of 95. She is the descendant of grandparents, Frank & Leonarda (Heras) Ashton – maternal and Mucio & Angelita (Alejandro) Ramirez – paternal. Josie was preceded in death by her siblings, Irene A. Rodriguez; Ramon Ramirez; Felipe Ramirez; Angelita Miranda; Isabel Zuniga; Margaret Miranda; Leonarda Gonzales; and Joe Ramirez.
As a young lady, Josie spent many hours outdoors assisting her family planting crops, harvesting vegetables, picking cotton from fields and peaches from the orchard. She was a farm girl riding the tractor but always helping her family. Josie spent over 30 years working for Gus’s Drug Store as a soda fountain attendant, cosmetic beauty advisor, pharmacist assistant and Spanish translator. She attended St. Helen Catholic Church and was a pillar of the Georgetown community. Everyone knew Josie.
Josie/Josephine (Aunt Josie, Tia, Great Aunt, Godmother); her memory is cherished by a multitude of nieces, nephews, great & great-great nieces and nephews; too many to name. But the most important thing is that she knew and loved each of you and you knew and loved her.
Miss Josie will be remembered for her flawless beauty, red lipstick, her many hats, laughter and smile. She loved traveling, visiting friends and relatives, eating out (Golden Chick, Cracker Barrel, Luby’s, etc.). She collected porcelain dolls from all over the world. She enjoyed plants and flowers inside and outside. She had more than one suiter in her day. No doubt, she was the socialite of Georgetown. We can’t forget her big heart as every Christmas Eve, all her relatives were invited for a Christmas party with red fruit punch (with real fruit added), sugar cookies, butter cookies, fruit cookies, fruit cake, cupcakes, bean dip, french dip, ranch dip, chips, fritos, and there was real food too. Josie made the best caldo which included the bone, meat, carrots, cabbage, corn and then Josie would phone several of us to stop by and have a bowl with her. She was forever making the holidays sweet with her pineapple cake, pumpkin pies and chocolate éclair cake.
Josie was a matriarch of the family. She will be remembered and rejoiced. May our prayers give her serenity and love as she enters the gates of heaven.
A visitation with the family will be held at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel on Thursday, September 21, 2023 from 6-8 pm with the rosary beginning at 7 pm.
A Funeral Mass will be conducted on Friday, September 22, 2023 at 1:30 pm at St. Helen Catholic Church followed by the burial at Georgetown Memorial Cemetery.
