

In his early years, Milton enjoyed the “small town” life in Georgetown. In high school, he was an All-Around athlete. As a football player, Georgetown fans got a thrill out of seeing the him dash 55-75 yards to score touchdowns. The so-called “pony” backfield would run wild over opposing teams. In the spring, he enjoyed the All-American sport of baseball. While attending Georgetown High School he lettered 4 years in baseball, and won all district honors. He also participated in basketball and track. During the summer of 1957 he played semi-pro baseball in Colorado, then went to Navarro Jr. College for one year where he lettered in baseball. After leaving Navarro, he enrolled at Southwest Texas in San Marcos and lettered 2 years in baseball.
He graduated from Southwest Texas University in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science in Education and took on the role of coach and mentor. From 1961-1963, he was a teacher and coach in Fredericksburg. In 1963, he returned to his hometown as a teacher and coach of his alma mater. From 1967-1974, he continued to serve Georgetown High School as the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach earning numerous playoff titles.
In 1974, he earned his Masters of Education from Southwest Texas State University, and served as Assistant Superintendent for Georgetown Independent School District. In 1976 he moved his family to Manor, and served as Superintendent of Schools til 1985. From 1985-1991, he was Superintendent of Schools in Woodsboro.
After serving in education for 30 years, he retired, and returned to Georgetown in 1991. He purchased Georgetown Sporting Goods and enjoyed supporting the sports he played and coached. His life was devoted to his family. He cherished the countless hours laughing and joking with his wife and children. “Pop” loved visiting and spending time with his grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, hunting, and watching his favorite sports team.
He leaves his wife of 48 years, Mary Martha (Lowrance) Denham; two sons, Tex Denham, Hunt Denham and wife Mary; two daughters, Monica McCollum, Mojo Cornelius and husband Jim. eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; his sister June Denham Clark and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theo and Jessie Denham; one brother Theo Denham; two sisters, Margaret Langston and Juanita Peterson; one son, Milton Lee Denham Jr. “Scooter”.
Visitation will be held between 5:00 pm-8:00 pm on Friday February 3, 2017 at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday February 4, 2017 at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel in Georgetown, with the burial to follow at IOOF Cemetery.
