It is with great sadness of heart that we write this message. Richard Alonzo Gomez passed away on March 25, 2026 at his home in Georgetown, Texas. He was surrounded by his loving family who saw that his passing was gentle, calm, and peaceful. We know that our loving Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ, welcomed him saying, “Well done my good and faithful friend. Now, welcome home.” He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Deborah, their son Conan (Dania), and grandchildren Nadia, Rylan, and Kieran of Dallas, Texas. He is preceded in death by parents Joe A. Gomez and Bernardina Gomez, brother Joe and sister Vicki Padillo. He is survived by brothers Frank and Robert, sisters Sarah Luna, Elizabeth Flores, and Dina (Paul) Mitchell, sister-in-law Beatrice Gomez and numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard “Chacho” Gomez was born January 15th, 1950. After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School, he attended the University of Texas at Austin earning a psychology degree in 1972. He would later return to UT Austin to earn a Pharmacy degree in 1979, graduating at the top of his class, and then again to earn a Master of Science degree in Pharmacy Administration in 1994.
Richard served a distinguished military career beginning as a US Army Combat Medic. His service later continued stateside in the US Army Reserves, including postings at both the VA Hospital and Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. His final posting was at the Pentagon, serving as Army Reserve Pharmacy Consultant to the Office of the Surgeon General. After 37 years of service, he retired in 2010 as a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves. Following retirement, he continued helping others as a contract pharmacist for the Indian Health Services at both Navajo and Apache Reservations in Arizona.
Richard loved playing golf and was an avid fan of UT Longhorn football. He and his family would attend at least one home game annually. Richard was generous in all ways to his friends and family. He embraced and cherished his roles as son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. We will miss him now and always. He would remind us to “Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thes 5:16-18). Also, he would say that “Every day is a holiday. Every meal is a banquet. And every breath is a gift from God.”
