

Robert L. Caddell, loving known as "Sam", passed away at home on Friday, May 16, 2014 at the age of 100 years and 9 months. Sam's family will gather for visitation and a time of sharing on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel, 393 North IH 35, Georgetown, Texas 78628. Family will gather again on Thursday, May 22, 2014 for a graveside service at 10:30AM at the IOOF Cemetery in Georgetown, with Pastor Paul Kersten officiating. Honoring Sam's memory serving as pallbearers will be Mark Whiteaker, Lee Whiteaker, R. C. Walker, Russell Lasuer, David Whiteaker, James Atkison and Tim Bradshaw. Robert L. Caddell was born at home in Seguin, Texas on August 12, 1913, the youngest of seven children of William and Mary Etta Caddell. He worked for many years as master stonemason. All over the hill country, Sam left his legacy in the work he did on many different projects, including dams at Burnet and Inks Lake, the Bluebonnet Electric Corp in Giddings, and the community building in the San Gabriel Park in Georgetown. Sam served his country honorably in the U. S. Army and the U. S. Coast Guard. He met the love of his life and his future wife, Lorene Annie Bage, while working in Giddings. Robert and Lorene were married on October 11, 1941 at Martin Luther Church in Giddings. Sam and Lorene were charter members of Christ Lutheran Church in Georgetown. Sam is preceded in death by his daughter, Peggy Ann Caddell in 2008; his parents, William and Mary Etta Dintleman Caddell; five brothers and one sister. Robert is survived by his loving wife of over 72 years, Lorene; his daughter, Bonnie Whiteaker and her husband David; his grandsons, Mark Whiteaker and wife Nancy, and Lee Whiteaker and wife Renee, great grandchildren, Shelby Jo Whiteaker, Makayla Whiteaker, Dixie Whiteaker and Truman Whiteaker. Gifts in Sam's memory may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 510 Luther Drive, Georgetown, Texas or the charity of your choice.
