

Roger Earl McDaniel, 70, of Georgetown entered into rest August 9, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 10, 1940 to Lloyd and Evelyn (George) McDaniel in Dallas. Roger grew up in Dallas, graduating from Sunset High School. He then earned his Bachelor’s degree from East Texas State and received his Master’s from Stephen F. Austin University. Roger was proud of his career as an educator, he taught middle school mathematics in the Dallas and Duncanville Independent School Districts, retiring after 28 years of faithful service. Roger married Jo Niederauer in Cedar Hill on June 29, 1996, the couple settled in Georgetown to enjoy their retirement. They worshipped at Christ Lutheran Church, where Roger sang in the choir. He was a member of the San Gabriel Masonic Lodge. Roger had many and varied interests; he played piano by ear, enjoyed bridge, an avid reader, was fond of classical music, he loved sailing and traveling especially going on cruises. Roger performed with the Sun City Singers and in the theater group. Roger is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lloyd George McDaniel. He leaves to cherish his memory a beloved wife, Jo of Georgetown; step-children, Melanie LaVelle of Cedar Park and Todd Niederauer of Leander; grandchildren, Trevor, Dylan, and Katie LaVelle all of Cedar Park, Stella and Lucy Niederauer both of Leander. A service to celebrate Roger’s faith and life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 20, 2011 in Christ Lutheran Church of Georgetown, TX. The family suggests memorials be made in Roger’s name to further the works of Hospice Austin or the American Cancer Society.
