William was born November 2, 1926 to Mary Ada (Holtzclaw) and James Charles Moore in Woodlawn, Texas. He had two older brothers, Chessley and Leonard and one sister Evelyn. His mother died when he was nine days old. His father remarried and William had two more sisters, Billie and Jackie. He grew up in Mineloa, Texas, in a railroad family as his grandfather, father, an uncle and one brother all worked for the Texas & Pacific Railway. While in high school, he too began work on the railroad, however on his eighteenth birthday he enlisted in the Army and served in the Asiatic Theatre in Japan during WWII.
Upon his return from Japan, he entered Tyler Commercial College, where he met Doris and they married three months later, on February 22, 1947. After completing accounting courses, William continued his employment with the railroad. Later he enrolled in the LaSalle Extension University of Chicago, which helped him advance to management positions in Dallas, Houston, Austin, Texas and Shreveport, Louisiana.
William accepted Jesus Christ as his Saviour in 1951 and with Christian growth, began to joyfully serve the Lord in several capacities over the years, Deacon, Missions Chairman, Bookkeeper, and Treasurer, and with Doris, Children’s Church and Jr. High Fellowship and Activities. They also hosted a weekly home Bible Class.
William and Doris were blessed with two wonderful children, Christy in 1956 and Ron in 1958 and were very proud of them and their accomplishments. The family enjoyed their church activities, summer vacations all over the states and Canada. William had a great sense of humor, therefore there was always lots of laughter in the home. William and Doris were both sports fans, especially football, basketball and golf. They often attended high school, college and pro games and William was an avid golfer. He was a devoted husband and father, a loyal forty-year employee of the railroad, from which he retired in 1984, and proud of his military service.
In 1993 they moved to Georgetown, closer to their children, Christy and husband Rick Habecker and granddaughter Heather, Ron and granddaughters Maddie and Ada, enjoying family get-to-gethers, golfing with old friends from Austin and new friends here. God led them to First Baptist Church and a Life Class of caring brothers and sisters in Christ.
As promised, (John 14:2-3)..... “I go to prepare a place for you” ….. “that where I am there you may be also” God called William home on October 26, 2022, (Psalm 23)..... “I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever”.
Loved ones left behind are his wife Doris, children Christy and Ron, granddaughters Heather, Maddie and Ada, great grandson Baldur, sister Jackie and many nieces and nephews.
