William Earl Streeter “Bill” of Round Rock passed away February 28th in Temple, Texas surrounded by his family. Bill was born on March 28, 1944 to Henry Marion Streeter and Gladys Lee Brown Streeter in Hamburg, Arkansas.
Bill would often reminisce about his childhood. He would talk about the outdoors, hunting, and fishing with his friends. You could see him light up when he would tell stories of getting their first TV, riding bikes, and terrorizing the neighborhood. He moved to Texas with his parents in the 50’s. He grew up “running the streets of Austin”. He would Race hot rods down Guadalupe and Lamar, making friends with the police so they would block the streets. He would go swimming at Barton Springs and Deep Eddie. Many people do not know that growing up, he wanted to be a pastor.
He served in the United States Army from June 28, 1965 until November 3, 1970. He became a Special Forces “Green Berets”; however, he only claimed to be “just a cook”. Bill never spoke much about his time serving our country other than telling a couple of stories of his time in France and Vietnam. During his service, he learned to play the guitar with Stevie Ray Vaughan, James Brown, and Elvis. While home on leave, he went to visit his parents at work, where he met Maudie O. Draper. They were married on December 22, 1967 in Austin, Texas. They had three daughters: DeAnna, Theresa, and Melissa.
Bill spent the majority of his time with his family. He loved to spend time outdoors: hunting deer, fishing at Honeymoon Camp on the Point, and just watching nature. The first weekend in October was reserved for hunting. Bill preferred to hunt with a bow instead of a gun. He had a love for life, all cultures, all types of music and food. He traveled to all countries, except for Hungary and all States in the United States, except New Hampshire. He spoke countless languages, though never claiming to be fluent in any, and could converse with anyone. He taught at William B. Travis High, the Clifton Center, and was a certified Educational Aide II. He was a carpenter, working with his brother-in-law. Out of all of his careers, he enjoyed being a truck driver the most.
In his later years, his joy came from spending time with his grandkids and loved teasing them. He was proud to be called “Papa”. He started “the finger touch” with the toddlers and would debate politics or religion with the older ones. He enjoyed family road trips, going to the casino, and playing bingo. He loved to watch cops, UFC, and the History Channel.
Bill is survived by his daughters, Theresa Novak and husband Kenneth, Melissa Michalewicz and husband Andrew; grandchildren, Michael, Madeleine, Eli, Olivia, & Edmund Michalewicz, Chris Novak and wife Samantha; and great grandchildren, Leta Fischer, Kenneth & Noah Novak; and loving girlfriend, Doris Palmer.
He is preceded in death by his wife of over 49 years, Maudie; daughter, DeAnna M. Streeter; sons, William E. Jr, Bobby, & Robby Streeter; grandson, Jeffery K. Novak; parents, Henry M. & Gladys L. Streeter; and Siblings, Johnny, Carolyn, & James Streeter.
