Emma Beatrice Chachere was born to Celeste Benoit and John Pradia in rural Louisiana on May 27, 1925. She moved to Ames,Texas when she was one years old and came to California in 1946 to be the maid-of-honor in her sister’s wedding. It was there that she met her husband, Russell Delahoussaye.
He was the best man and brother of the groom. They married in 1948 and had three children (Russell, Roland and Sherry).
In 1954, Emma remarried and began her life with John Chachere who had two daughters (Yvette and Darlene). Emma and John had a son (Anthony); and in 1956, they moved to Duarte, California with their blended family. For several years, Emma enjoyed staying home and caring for her six children, but once they were in high school, she worked professionally as a nursing assistant at City of Hope and later as a receptionist at Western Fence Company.
In 2010, Emma moved to Kingsley Manor Assisted Living in Los Angeles, California where her friendly smile, bubbly personality and fun-loving spirit won the hearts of residents and staff. Some of her favorite activities were karaoke, bingo, word search puzzles, concerts, and champagne socials once a month; but her most important and consistent activity was saying the rosary at 6:00 every night. Emma was a devout Catholic and a very spiritual person.
