We are here today to celebrate, remember, and honor Herminda Sanchez Chavez. Herminda was loved by many as a great friend, aunt, sister, and cousin but for me she was the best mother anyone could have wished for. She was my ultimate best friend, mother and father in one.
I know I share my grief with so many family members and friends who have expressed their sympathies about my mother’s battle with cancer. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to spend private time with her the final days of her last chapter of life. I thank the Lord for allowing me that opportunity.
My mother worked hard throughout her life. She always strived to have the best in life for me and her family members. She never put herself first she always thought about how to help others and worked hard to achieve it. My mother’s caring heart and love for others attracted many to love her and care for her in return. I would definitely say she was a genuine loving person.
My mother who was a very talented and self-taught seamstress she could make any type of garment, drapery, upholstery, or tailored outfit. This skill helped her to earn a living at an early age. She enjoyed sewing so much she even made my prom dress. However, I think it was a way to have oversight on what I was going to wear that night. She was so involved in my life.
She also had a passion for gardening, she could make any flower blossom and produce many harvests from her garden which she loved to share and teach others.
One of the most important attributes of my mother was she was a woman of great faith. Everywhere she went she made it known by her words or actions. I was brought up in Christian environment as well as anyone who lived with her. She showed us the importance of having a personal relationship with the Lord. She rarely missed a Sunday Church service even when she was going through her chemo treatments. She not only attended Church; she was a Sunday school teacher for the youth. I remember her going to the store to buy materials for her class and how excited she was to buy items for her kids. I also remember the late nights she stayed up preparing for her class lectures. My mother’s faith was so strong she never gave up, she always believed the Lord would cure her cancer. The doctor’s chemotherapy may have not worked but she said, “her ultimate doctor the Lord would cure her”. I admired her strength and faith which gave me continuous hope for her. Through her faith she continued to provide support to her family and friends.
My mother was a true soldier, she may have not won the cancer battle, but she won the battle of life. She is at peace in eternal life with her heavenly father the Lord.
I am eternally inspired by my mother’s life and the spiritual way she lived it. My mother was a beautiful determined woman driven by love, care, and faith. A person who carried out random acts of kindness and never expected anything in return just the love of her family and friends was enough.
Mom, your love, care, and faith will live on in our memories. Your wisdom, kindness, and compassion will be with us forever. Your laughter, smile, classiness, life teachings of family relationships and deep faith will live throughout the rest of our lives.
We love you, cherish you and will always carry you in our hearts. Thank you for being a marvelous mother to me.
