May 6, 1950 – September 24, 2025
John Stanley “Stan” Lee was born on May 6, 1950, in Pasadena, California, to Dean and Doris Lee of Glendora, California. From an early age, Stan showed both a sharp intellect and a love of athletics. He was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1958—a faith that would anchor and guide him throughout his life.
During his school years, Stan excelled both academically and athletically, participating in baseball, basketball, and cross country. He was active on the Student Council and received numerous awards for his scholastic achievements, including the Academic-Athlete Award upon his graduation from Gladstone High School in 1968.
Following high school, Stan began his studies at Pomona College before transferring to Idaho State University to pursue a degree in science. It was there that he met Cathy Coulter of Pocatello. The two were married in 1972 and sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple, beginning a partnership that would welcome six children and fill their home with laughter and devotion. Stan graduated in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy.
After completing his education, Stan returned to his hometown of Glendora and began his career at Nelson’s Drug Store, which his parents had purchased in 1975. In 1992, he took over ownership of the pharmacy and spent the next 33 years serving his community as both owner and chief pharmacist. Stan was deeply committed to his work and to the people he served, often going above and beyond—sharing his personal phone number, opening the store after hours, and ensuring that anyone in need received care and compassion.
A man of deep faith and service, Stan held various callings within the Church, including counselor in the bishopric, high council member, and gospel doctrine teacher. His kindness extended well beyond his church and family—he quietly helped countless individuals through his generosity and philanthropy, blessing the lives of hundreds of customers, friends, employees, and loved ones.
Stan is survived by his six children and their spouses, twenty-seven grandchildren, and two siblings who will forever remember his example of faith, service and hard work. His family feels especially grateful for the twenty additional years they were granted with him following his heart transplant—a gift that allowed for many more memories and milestones together.
Stan passed away on September 24, 2025.Stan’s legacy of faith and generosity will continue to live on in the countless lives he touched.
A memorial service honoring his life will be held on Saturday, November 15, 10:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Route 66 in Glendora, California.
