The family of Joseph Audral Leaman is saddened to announce his passing on June 16, 2025, at the age of 80 years. He passed away peacefully at his home in Fontana, California, surrounded by his family. Joseph was born on September 13,1944, in Lafayette, Indiana to his beloved parents, Arthur and Bernice Leaman. He was the second born of four talented and adventurous brothers.
Joseph and his family moved to southern California in the 1950s. Following his graduation from Azusa High School in 1962, Joseph attended Citrus College in Glendora. He was drafted during the Vietnam War and served in the Army for two years. During that time, he played both saxophone and clarinet in the United States Army Band at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. It was there that he met his wife, Judy.
After Joseph completed his military service, he returned to California with Judy. There they raised their daughter, Kimberly, and spent many happy years together. Joseph grew in faith during those years and served his family and church community with deep devotion. He worked as a purchasing agent for 3M/Unitek in Monrovia until suffering a debilitating stroke in 1996. Even after such a great loss, Joseph persevered. He was cherished as a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and as a warm, welcoming member of his church.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Judy; daughter, Kimberly Algallar; her husband, John Mark Algallar; grandchildren, Zechariah, Ashton, Harmony, and Casiano; brothers, Keith Leaman and his wife Nina, and Dale Leaman and his wife Julie; and nephew, Roger Leaman and his wife Judy. He is preceded in death by his brother, Allen Leaman.
All who met Joseph were blessed by his kind and gentle spirit and witnessed his courageous perseverance as he lived for 29 difficult yet joyful years after his stroke. His loving approach was endearingly reflected in his nickname, Buddy—he was a friend to all. Joseph now rests in the presence of Jesus.
