Manuel A. Vargas Lopez

Manuel A. Vargas Lopez passed away on January 30, 2025, after a battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Manuel accomplished a great deal throughout his 86 years on earth. He was born in Bogota, Colombia, the second child to Segundo Samuel and Maria Etelvina Vargas. Manuel came to the United States in 1964 with little more than the clothes in his suitcase and the desire to pursue the American Dream. Soon thereafter he met the love of his life and married Maria De Jesus Lizarraga in 1967.

Manuel and Maria were blessed with two sons, Michael and Mark. They raised their children over the course of more than five decades in the San Gabriel Valley area of Los Angeles County. Manuel enjoyed a long career in the printing industry, where he ran his own print shop during the day while working as a manager of a larger printing company at night. By doing so, he was able to buy a home for his family and support both his sons’ pursuit and achievement of a college degree. Together, Manuel and Maria also worked hard to help each of Manuel’s siblings and mother to immigrate to the United States from Colombia, so that each of them could also enjoy a better life in America. During his retirement years, Manuel was able to enjoy helping to take care of his grandchildren, Christopher and Thomas, as well as travel with Maria and their friends on many trips to Europe and the Americas.

A classic example of humility and strength, Manuel Vargas remained active until shortly before passing. He is survived by his wife, Maria, his children, Michael and Mark, his grandchildren, Thomas and Christopher, and his siblings Luis, Cecilia, Isabel, Jairo, and Jorge.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the HealthWell Foundation. During Manuel’s battle with ALS, the HealthWell Foundation provided a $15,000 grant to assist with the cost of specialized medicine for this disease. We hope to be able to provide a helping hand to another family in need.

Un ejemplo clásico de humildad y fortaleza, Manuel Vargas se mantuvo activo hasta poco antes de morir. Le sobreviven su esposa, María, sus hijos, Michael y Mark, sus nietos, Thomas y Christopher, y sus hermanos Luis, Cecilia, Isabel, Jairo y Jorge.
