Our Mom , Maria del Carmen Tovar. was born on July 16, 1934, in El Paso, Texas, and that is where she met and married our Dad. After 5 years, they moved to California and built a strong, faith-filled family. She was the youngest of three siblings — Olga, Elvira, and our mom, the youngest. They were known as “The Golden Girls.”
A devoted woman of faith, she always reminded us, “God first.” She was humble, kind, and loved by everyone who crossed her path. She felt truly blessed by her family and showed her love through her presence, never missing a school function or baseball game, and filling our home with warmth and delicious homemade flour tortillas among other favorite meals that she always made with love.
She had two sons, and a daughter. The oldest, Eduardo, then Jaime and the youngest, Olga. She had three grandchildren — Janine, Jakob, and Nikol and two great-grandchildren, Caden and Vida, who were the joy of her life. She made sure to always make her family feel loved and supported in whatever we did. Everyone who was fortunate enough to know her felt the warmth and happiness of her beautiful soul.
Among the things she loved was watching the Dodgers on TV, Concerts in the Park with my brother and sister-in-law, Casino turn arounds with her Sisters & visiting Jaime in Palm Springs. She also enjoyed taking silly pictures with Nikol and laughing with her grandchildren. Overall, spending time with her family and making memories was her ultimate favorite.
We are comforted to know she is resting peacefully with our Lord in paradise. She left a legacy of strength in her faith that will live on in all of us.
Jesus J. Tovar
