

He attended St. Luke’s Catholic School and was a 1971 graduate of La Salle High School in Pasadena, where he was a standout athlete, lettering in basketball, baseball, and track. He continued his education at Pasadena City College before returning to university later in life. He went on to attend Cal State Northridge and Cal State LA, graduating from the latter with honors.
His professional life included work at a lumber yard and furniture delivery before finding fulfillment as a bilingual teacher’s aide, a job he greatly enjoyed, especially working with children. He also served as a dedicated caregiver for his parents, Lillie Robles (who passed away in August 2014) and Oscar Sr. (who passed away in January 2017).
A lifelong enthusiast of sports and music, Oscar Jr. was a devoted UCLA sports fan, particularly of the basketball team. He idolized former coach John Wooden and often referenced the coach’s quotes and his “Pyramid of Success.” He cherished time spent visiting and talking with his family, listening to music, following all sports, hiking, and biking.
Oscar is survived by his younger brother, Michael, and Michael’s wife, Janice, along with his many beloved nieces and nephews: Shaun (Wahidah) Robles, Olivia Provence, Vanessa (Matthew) Smith, Cheryn Schulz, Josh Schulz, Angelina Robles, Matthew Horner, Leila Mohamed, James Robles, Jacob Provence, Lillie Provence, Sarena Robles, Griffey Smith, and Troy Smith.
