Phyllis A Swank

November 28, 1934 to April 25, 2022

Phyllis A. (Walker) Swank, 87, of Azusa, California, passed away in her sleep on Monday, April 25, 2022, at Oasis Senior Care Home in Upland, California.

She was a daughter of the late Frank W. Walker and Florence B. (Stitt) Walker. Phyllis was born in Manor Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. She grew up near Ford City, Pennsylvania and graduated from Ford City High School in 1953.

She and her family moved to Southern California, settling in their home of 60 years in Azusa. Phyllis was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and baking. She was often asked for her recipes and for cooking advice by family and friends. Phyllis began working for the Azusa Unified School District as a part time cafeteria worker in 1967. She quickly worked her way to Cafeteria Manager at Mountain View Elementary School in Azusa, as well as becoming a part-time Teacher’s Aid. Phyllis retired in 1997, after 30 year of service. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play sports, school plays, and music recitals.

Phyllis is survived by her four children Dennis Swank, of Kittanning, PA, Randy Swank (Sherry), of Litchfield Park, AZ, Robert Swank, of Ontario, CA, and Darlene Swank, of Azusa, CA; five grandchildren Nichol Swank, of Desert Hot Springs, CA, Randy Swank Jr. (Johanna), of Leander, TX, Andrew Swank (Chelsea), of Summerville, SC, Katie Swank, of Kittanning, PA, and Kendyal Swank, Indianapolis, IN; Four great-grandchildren; and three siblings Virginia Dawson, of Ford City, PA, Garnet Ludwick (Tom), of Kittanning, PA and Roger Walker (Gloria), of Freeport, PA, and her sister-in-law Karol Walker, of Gilpin Township, PA.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Donald; her parents; brother Richard Walker and his wife Louise; brother Melvin Walker; and brother-in-law Albert Dawson.

A memorial service will be held on July 2, 2022 at the Grace Baptist Church, 527 Butler Rd., Kittanning, PA 16201. Internment of Phyllis and Don’s ashes will be at the Cowan Cemetery, following the memorial service for Phyllis.

A second memorial service will be held on July 16, 2022 at the Village Covenant Church, 5607 Barranca Ave., Azusa, CA 91702.
