Steven Ring passed away on Sept. 15, 2014, at his home in Glendora, Ca, at the age of 79. Steve lived a long and adventurous life.
Steve was born Steven Istvan Ring in Gyor, Hungary June 7, 1935. His parents were Lajos Ring and Terez Takacs Ring. Steve lived in Gyor until the age of 21. He served in the Hungarian army and at the time of the Hungarian Revolution in 1957, he was forced to escape from his country, which was then under Communist rule. After a short stay in Austria, he was allowed to relocate to the United States, and settled in Berkeley with his sponsor Steve was drafted into the U. S. Army and served for 3 years in Fort Bragg, N.C. After his discharge he relocated to Pasadena, Ca., where he met his future spouse, Carole. They were married at the Mission in San Gabriel and located in San Gabriel after honeymooning in Hawaii. Steve and Carole were married for 30 years and had two sons, Steven and Ryan. Steve then earned his citizenship and was very proud to be an American citizen.
Steve worked as a Porsche technician for many years and his talents were much in demand. He was the "go -to" person when problems needed to be solved. Steve also raced Porsches and was a crew member for other Porsche racers. Steve's life was filled with many adventures. He was a skin diver, flew a private plane for many years, sailed his beloved sailboat, and enjoyed hiking and camping. He loved nature and photography was another of his hobbies. He was a leader in the Sierra Club for many years and was also a band booster for the Glendora Tartan band, of which both his sons were members during their years at Glendora High School. Steve was very proud of his sons and followed their years in soccer and baseball and band. He was a very kind man who loved and was devoted to his family and his 4 grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by his family and his many friends. Steve was a familiar face around Glendora, which he loved and lived in for over 40 years.
Steve is survived by his former spouse, Carole, his son Steven, Steven's wife Nina and granddaughter Jacqueline (14) and grandson Aidan (7). He is also survived by his son Ryan and Ryan's wife Veridiana and grandson Calvin (8) and granddaughter Olivia (3) He is predeceased by his parents Lajos and Terez and is also survived by his brothers Laszlo and Lajos and nieces and nephews Ildiko, Szilvia, Balazs and Lazslo.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Oakdale Memorial Park Mortuary at 1401 S. Grand Ave., Glendora, on October 12 at 1 p.m.
