William David Crow was born in November of 1946 in Los Angeles California. He was better known to almost everyone as Bill. In his early twenties, Bill enlisted in the Military in the Army and served our country proudly for over 20 years in various capacities. Some of those positions included Medical Specialist, Practical Nurse, Man Pad’s Crew Member, Armor Senior Sargent, Short-range Missile Crewman, and Patient Care Specialist, to name a few. He reached the rank of Sargent First Class. He received many commendations and medals. They include The Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Arm Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, and also as a Marksman.
He served in various missions for the military, most notably in the Vietnam War. His time and experience in Vietnam carried with him during his lifetime both physically and mentally. As part of his military service, he served in the California Army National Guard.
During the 1970s and 1980s Bill entered and served as a Reserve Police Officer for the City of Alhambra. He served with his wife, Barbara, and retired at the rank of Sargent. They were married for 46 years.
After his military service, he went into the medical field working as an X-ray technician at Whittier Presbyterian Hospital for several years. Bill’s interest in the radiology field grew over time which led him to begin training in nuclear medicine. He joined this emerging technology, early in its inception. Once he became proficient, he traveled to various states throughout the United States to train staff with the newfound technology. He continued with this work until he suffered an injury that would sideline him into early disability retirement.
During his later years into retirement, he developed a fascination with genealogy. He spent hours and hours of research on his family tree. He collected a large volume of information that he shared with relatives and potential relatives alike across the US. He enjoyed exploring through Ancestry.com. It was during this exploration that he learned of his Native American heritage, where he found out that he was 5/32 degrees of the Choctaw tribe. In addition, he was a member by blood, of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Crow, his father, Cecil Crow, and his mother Lucille LeFlore. He is survived by his sons, William Paredes, and his wife Carmen and Steven Paredes. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Grace Paredes Doran, Kevin Castillo, and Billie Paredes, his sisterPhyllis Crow and step-sons Michael Bilbrey and Sean Bilbrey. A funeral service will be held in his honor at 1 PM on Monday, May 1, 2023, at Riverside National Cemetery. Instead of flowers, the family has requested that anyone wishing to make a donation do so with any local VFW group. We feel this would be an excellent way to honor his memory and service to this country.
