Betty Drain

Betty was born on February 15, 1937, in Riverside, CA, to her parents James Herman and Mary Edythe Crabtree. She married Warren Lynn Drain in 1957--Greeneville's "June Bridal Couple" of the year--and was an active member of the Walkertown community.

Betty was an accomplished violinist and graduated from Tusculum College with a degree in music education. She taught music in county elementary schools and continued her passion for teaching, playing, and enjoying music throughout her life. She was an award-winning Activities Director at Life Care Center of Greeneville for many years and enjoyed sharing the arts with all ages.

Betty is survived by her children, Diane Shackelford and her husband Jerry Shackelford of Murfreesboro, TN, and Maxwell Drain and his wife Carolyn Schult of Granger, IN; her sister, Ada Jaynes and her husband Jack Jaynes of Afton, TN; and her four grandchildren: Sarah Shackelford, Hallie Shackelford, Benjamin Drain, and Alex Drain. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lynn; her brother, John Crabtree; and her parents.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, September 16, at Notre Dame Catholic Church. Father Dan Whitman will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Betty's life. Interment will take place at 2 p.m. at Andrew Johnson National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Notre Dame Catholic Church, 212 Mt. Bethel Road, Greeneville, TN 37745.
