He retired from Old Knoxville Highway Water Dept.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years: JoAnn Elkins Douthat; two daughters and a son-in-law: Virginia and Eddie Rose, Blinda Douthat and friend, Cliff Garren; grandchildren: Christopher Rose and wife, Adrienne, Matthew Rose, Dillon Reece Hopson and friend, Siera Childress; great grandchildren: Mourghan Rose and Bailee Rose; brothers and sisters-in-law: J. P. and Imogene Douthat, Bill and Barbara Douthat, Dick and Carol Douthat; sisters and brother-in-law: Glenna Parks, Margie and John Slater; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Hal and Inez Elkins; an aunt: Betty Dyer and husband, Walter; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents,W. J. and Ruby Walton Douthat; stepmother, Ernestine Davis Douthat and a brother, Samuel Lynn Douthat.
The family wished to express a special thanks to his caregiver, Bobby Taylor and to the staff of Amedisys Hospice.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, March 16, 2014, at 2 pm at Sinking Springs Lutheran Church in Midway.
