He was a retired foreman of Magnavox/Philips Consumer Electronics, a member of Mt. Pisgah Church and a U.S. Army Veteran.
Mr. Shelton was a member of Greeneville Moose Lodge, where he had been a former Governor; as well as a member of the Sunnyside Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a Sunnyside Little League Baseball coach.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Angela (Dr. Richard Jackson) Shelton; two sons and a daughter-in-law: Todd Shelton, Mike (Yvonne) Shelton; grandchildren: Martin Leach, Lt. Matthew Leach, Daniel Shelton, Alex Shelton, Brayden Shelton, Elizabeth Shelton, and Michael Shelton, Jr.; great grandchildren: Ethan Leach, Raelyn Shelton, and Owen Shelton; two sisters: Fannie Shipley and Frances Kinser and her husband, Russell; sister-in-law, Connie Shelton; two additional sisters-in-law, whom he thought of as sisters: Julia Johnson and Beverly (Doyce) Chandler; brother-in-law, Wayne Jennings; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the son of the late Wiley and Anna Shelton and was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Shelton; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gordon and Ivetta Jaynes; a brother, Lowell Shelton; a sister, Margaret Jennings; and a brother-in-law, Charles Shipley.
The family will receive friends 1:00-3:00 pm Saturday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Kenny Collins and Rev. Phil Sybrant will officiate. Interment will then be conducted at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brian Shipley, Kendall Shipley, Steve Kinser, Phillip Kelley, Dalton Kelley, and William Sieber.
