

She graduated from Tusculum College with a business degree and graduated from Walters State Community College at age 50.
She was a member of First Baptist Church where she was involved with the Women’s Missionary Union. She was involved in mission work and taught Bible Study. She served as a voluntary missionary in Africa, Burkino Faso, Upper Volta and Zimbabwe and was also involved in drought and hunger relief and teaching literacy.
Mrs. Cockrum was a loving mother and was very dedicated to her family.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years: Richard A. Cockrum, Sr.; three sons and two daughters-in-law: Stephen Edward and Cathleen Cockrum of Sacramento, California, Richard, Jr. and Pam Cockrum of Richmond Hills, Texas, and Michael Allen Cockrum of Afton; grandchildren: Beth, Brent and Nathan Cockrum, John Olmo, Danielle Olmo and Casey Cockrum; and a brother and sister-in-law: Jacob B. and Hila Michaelsen of Santa Cruz, California.
She was the daughter of the late Jacobus and Edith Michaelsen and was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip Michaelsen; and a sister, Judy Isais.
The family will receive friends 4-6 pm Wednesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
Following visitation, the funeral service will be held at 6 pm Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dr. David Green and Rev. Joey Tillery officiating.
Interment will be at 2 pm Thursday in Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville.
