Helen Starnes

She retired from Greeneville ASCS office after more than 30 years of service.

She was a life-long member of Salem Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

All the family members referred to her as “Aunt Helen.” She enjoyed the traditions of hosting her nieces and nephews on holidays as well as special occasions with other family members, neighbors, and friends. She was very involved in the community and helping others.

She was the secretary-treasurer for Salem CP Church for many years, secretary of the Salem CP Women’s Group, and the secretary for the Baileyton Community Chest.

She enjoyed her involvement in planning for the class reunion of the Baileyton High School class of 1955.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years: Gene Starnes of the Union Temple Community; sister and brother-in-law: Wanda and Dale Brockway of Baileyton; special niece: Rhonda Gentry of Greeneville; special nephews and wives: Randy and Chris Weems of Union Temple and Tim and Sarah Weems of Ottway; special great nieces and husband: Terra and Josh Misener of Johnson City, Brittany Weems of Tusculum, and Niki Weems and Samantha Weems of Ottway; special great nephews: Ethan Gentry of Greeneville and Dustin Weems and Adam Foshie of Union Temple; special great-great niece: Madisyn Miller of Tusculum; brother-in-law: Jim Starnes of Wesley’s Chapel Community; special cousin and wife: Charles and Cindy Morelock of Union Temple; aunts: Ruth Morelock and Myrtle Freshour of Baileyton; special friends: Helen Weems of Lost Mountain, Shelby Gass of Ottway, Doyle and Patricia Brown of Greeneville, Linda Lou Freshour of Baileyton, Donald and Joyce Weems and Carl Brandon of Lost Mountain, and Wayne Catron of Greeneville; and many cousins, friends and neighbors.

The family will receive friends from 3pm-7pm Saturday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.

Following visitation, the funeral service will be held at 7:00pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Richard Bowers, Billy Moore, and Bronson Carter officiating.

Interment will be at 2:00 pm Sunday at Salem Cemetery in the Lost Mountain Community. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:00 pm Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jason Brandon, Donald Weems, Wayne Catron, Bud Freshour, Johnny Starnes, and Joe Light.

Honorary pallbearers are Doyle Brown, Bob Foulks, Carl Brandon, Richard and Jerome Brandon, Charles Morelock, Les Weems, Dr. Robert Strang, Dale Brockway, Gail Starnes, Joe Kite, and members of Salem Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Salem CP Church Cemetery Fund, in care of Rocky Greenlee, 1789 Lost Mountain Pike, Greeneville, TN 37745; or to the charity of choice.
