

He was retired from American Enka Corporation in Morristown (BASF). He was an air conditioning technician.
He served in the army during the Korean Conflict as a Corporal. He also completed quartermaster school.
Mr. Harris was the oldest member of St. Joseph’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Midway, where he attended regularly as long as he was able. He loved being at church with his church family.
James will be missed by all who knew him. He always had a smile on his face and enjoyed talking to people he met on life’s path.
He was a loving father, grandfather, and brother. He truly loved his family!
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 62 years, Louise Miser Harris; four children and their spouses: Glenna and Ken Ottinger, Frankie Harris, Roger Dale and Marilyn Harris, and Steve Harris, all of Greene County; grandchildren and their spouses: Chris Gregg, Chad and Shirley Gregg, Chassidy Morrow, Eric and Stacy Harris, Allen and Holly Harris, Andrew and Chelsey Harris, Danielle “Jamie” and Vernon Eutah, Shannon Harris, Leah Harris, Paula Harris, Steven Harris, Rachel Harris; step granddaughters and spouses: Amy and Craig Brandon, Kerry and Dan Vincent, and Charlie Morgan; step-grandson: Michael Ball; great grandchildren (who thought of him as their Papaw, not as a great grandparent): Amber Brooks Long and her husband, Dustin, Ashleigh Morrow, Hunter Morrow, Lexie Gregg, Justin Gregg, MacKenzee Vincent, Christian Vincent, Drew Brandon, Willow Gregg, Cheyenne Harris, Chesney Harris, Hayden Harris, Addison Harris, Tyler Harris, Wayland Harris, Alex Harris, Abby Harris, Gracie Harris, Ryan Purkey, Madeline Purkey, Jayden Eutah, and Kayden Eutah; and sister and brother-in-law: Delores and H.C. McCollum.
He was preceded in death by his parents: George and Gertie Dykes Harris; a grandson: Mario Harris; a great granddaughter; brothers: Bobby Hogan and Kenneth Hogan; and two nieces: Joy and Juanita Hogan.
The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Chapel in Midway with Rev. Jeremy Seaton and Rev. Roger Ealey officiating. The family is asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. Friday to go in procession to the church.
Interment will follow in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. The Greene County Honor Guard and the Tennessee National Guard will conduct a military graveside service.
Pallbearers will be Chris Gregg, Allen Harris, Andrew Harris, Hunter Morrow, Justin Gregg, David Smith, and Frankie Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be members of St. Joseph’s Men’s and Ladies’ Sunday School Class.
