GOD Took Him to His Loving Arms

God saw him getting tired, a cure was not to be.

He wrapped him in his loving arms and whispered ‘Come with me.’

He suffered much in silence, his spirit did not bend.

He faced his pain with courage, until the very end.

He tried so hard to stay with us but his fight was not in vain,

God took him to His loving home and freed him from his pain.

Mr. Cox was born April 25, 1951 to the late Lee and Ollie Boyd Cox and lived most of his life in

Greene County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Boyd and

an infant sister.

His faith in God always shined through in the way he lived his life and treated others. He was a

member of and a Sunday School teacher at Carter’s Chapel United Methodist Church on

Lonesome Pine Trail in Greeneville, where he also served as Chair of Administrative Council.

He will truly be missed.

He was employed by Sperry and Raytheon for over twenty-five years and then spent another ten

years with Siemens/Epic. He was employed at IES at Gray, Tenn. until his sickness and

subsequent surgery.

Mr. Cox is survived by his loving wife, Mettie Sue Cox; his very special granddaughter,

Myikaela Jones; stepdaughter and husband, Pamela and Terry Jones, all of Erwin; many other

relatives and dear friends.

The family will receive friends 6 until 7 p.m. Monday with a celebration of his life to follow at

Grace United Methodist Church in Erwin. On Tuesday, the family will receive friends 2 until 3

p.m. at Carter’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Greeneville. A graveside service will

follow visitation in the church cemetery.

Rev. Garland E. James and Rev. Mark Wills will officiate.

Pallbearers will be his friends and neighbors. The men of Grace U. M. Church and of Carter’s

Chapel U. M. Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request memorials be made to Memorial and Honor

Program, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
