He was an early employee of Magnavox and then a Rural Letter Carrier for 33 years, retiring in 1996 to spend time with his wife and follow his grandchildren's every sport activity.
Mr. Collins was a member of First Christian Church, where he served as deacon.
He was a U. S. Air Force veteran and a member of the National Rural Letter Carrier’s Association.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years: Fredda Collins; a son and daughter-in-law: Mike and Paula Collins of Atlanta; grandchildren: Haley Collins and Will Collins, both of Atlanta; a sister: Lorene Collins of Greeneville; and nieces: Judy Braswell and husband, Jon, of Monahans, Texas, Donna Barger and husband, Jim, of Tellico Plains, Tenn., and Karen Rickels and husband, Greg, of Seymour, Tenn.
He was the son of the late Jesse and Onnie Myers Collins and was preceded in death by a sister, Edith Shelton.
The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 pm Friday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
Following visitation, the funeral service will be held at 8 pm in the funeral home chapel with Scott Wakefield, Charles Reese, and Jeff and Susan McNabb officiating.
Interment will be at 1 pm Saturday in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. Family and friends are asked to meet at 12:15 pm Saturday at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Will Collins, Haley Collins, Elmer Tweed, Greg Rickels, Rick Nienaber, and Dale Teague.
Honorary Pallbearers are Fred Laughters, Fred Rader, and Jimmy Cox.
