Verna Mae "Vernie" Hensley Norton

She retired as a nurse, having worked for the late Dr. Jim Campbell, Dr. Rae B. Gibson, and Dr. V. R. Bottomley for 46 years.

She was a member of Horse Creek Church of God and attended as long as her health permitted.

Those close to her knew her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and said that she will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and community.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law: Kathy and Mike Myers of Greene County; one grandson and wife: Matt and Tina Myers of Greene County; one great grandson: Hudson Myers of Greene County; one step great granddaughter: Hannah Simms of Greene County; one sister: Sue Landers of Greene County; one sister-in-law: Lena Hensley of Greene County; a special Niece and Nephew whom she helped raise: Pat Elswick and Keith Hensley; a host of nieces and nephews; and her special close friends: Maybrey Gfellers and the Late Doyle Gfellers.

She was the daughter of the late Granville and Mittie Hensley. She was preceded in death by her husband: R. J. (Ras) Norton; five sisters: Betty Babb, Ruby Norton, Vesta Wilson, Bethel Shelton, and Madge Hollenbeck; and four brothers: Henry Allen Hensley, Sam Hensley, Robert Hensley, and Arnold Hensley.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Kiser-Rose Hill Chapel will Rev. Maybrey Gfellers and Rev. Jerry Hensley officiating.

Interment will follow in Horse Creek Church of God Cemetery.

Her pallbearers will be Kenny Norton, Snide Hensley, Dale Landers, Charles Gfellers, Scott Hollenbeck, and Curtis Babb.

Nephews and great nephews, the staff of Durham-Hensley Health and Rehabilitation, Dr. Fred Myers, Angela Johnson and staff of Takoma Wound Care Center will serve as honorary pallbearers.
