

A native of Greene County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Roxa Looney Humphreys.
She had been a member of Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church since her marriage in 1953, having transferred her membership from Solomon Lutheran Church. She had served in her church as an ordained elder, clerk of session, Sunday school teacher, and Sunday school treasurer. She also served on the Holston Presbytery Committee on Ministry, Holston Presbytery Camp Committee, and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Greene County Farm Bureau.
She was a 1950 graduate of St. James High School and attended East Tennessee State University and Greeneville Business School. Her career as a secretary began in 1952 and spanned a period of 51 years. In 1990, at the end of 30 years of state service, she retired from her position as administrative secretary to the superintendent of Greene Valley Developmental Center. However, immediately following her retirement, she resumed her career to serve another 15 years at Woolsey Enterprises, personal business of attorneys Roger and Linda Woolsey.
In addition to her parents and her late husband of 72 years, Mrs. Bowers was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Lucille Humphreys and Ruth Humphreys Parman, two brothers, Hugh and Kenneth Humphreys, and a sister-in-law, Viola Solomon Humphreys.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Doug Duncan of Greeneville; two grandchildren and their husbands, Lindsey and Brandon McCaslin of Lebanon, and Claire and Eric Idell of Greeneville; four great grandsons and one great granddaughter, James Mason McCaslin and Maddox Graham McCaslin of Lebanon; Michael Cole Idell, Jackson Reid Idell, and Hadley Cate Idell of Greeneville, niece, Frances Humphreys Monk, and nieces and their husbands, Barbara and Dunk Neas, Donna and Jack Wilds, and Robin and Ted Reaves, all of Greeneville, Brenda and Richard Dunn of Powell, and Carla and Rex Justus of Franklin; and one sister-in-law, Jacqueline Havaux Bowers and a nephew, Peter Max Bowers, both of Big Stone Gap, Virginia.
The graveside funeral and committal services were held on Thursday, July 3rd, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Timber Ridge Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Christine Bohn PhD. officiated.
