It is with a great deal of sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Al James, on Tuesday, May 30th, 2023. He was a very active and healthy 88-year old who lived life to the fullest. His kind nature and friendly demeanor touched all who knew him.
Born in Hamilton, he lived with his parents and brother, until he married Diana in 1961. Al said that marrying Diana, was the best thing that ever happened to him. He and Diana had two children Karen and Cheryl whom he cherished and adored. In 1969, the four of them moved to Guelph. They became members of Harcourt United Church and Al joined Toastmasters and was “Toastmaster of the Year”. He enjoyed his life on Carnaby Cres. for 46 years. After Diana passed 5 1/2 years ago, Al continued to reside in Guelph.
Al was a dedicated and devoted grandfather to Kyla and Evan and was very active in their lives. He loved being “Grandpa” to the two of them. The love between them was undeniable and he treasured every minute. Family meant everything to Al. He said it didn’t matter what they did, as long as they were together.
Al was blessed with the love, friendship and support of many family and friends. He and Diana enjoyed their company both at home and while travelling together. He will be missed by everyone who knew him, especially Karen, Cheryl, Kyla, Evan, brother Bill (Nancy), sister-in-law Katherine, nieces and nephews and numerous cousins and friends.
Al was an avid reader and always found time to watch the news on T.V. Al enjoyed discussing current events, his daily walks in the mall, coffee with friends and being a handyman.
Al worked as a Manufacturing Engineer primarily in the automotive industry. He also taught engineering courses in the evenings for 10 years, at Conestoga College. In his later years, he was a member of the Wellington County Men's Club.
Al will be fondly remembered for his kindness, generous spirit and his enthusiasm to help others. He loved to chat with people and made people smile, wherever he went.
A celebration of Al’s life will be held at a later date.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to Harcourt United Church or Lewy Body Dementia Association would be appreciated.
