There’s something so special about Jacob that words can hardly capture. From the moment you met him, you absorbed his infectious energy and lively spirit. Anyone who spent time with him knows exactly how that felt.

Jacob was on my crew during our first year of tree planting. I thought our crew was the coolest and the most fun—and in hindsight, I realize how much it was Jacob who magnified everyone’s energy and brought the best out in us. After planting, he always made the effort to stay in touch with my husband Malcolm and me. No matter if it was just a few of us catching up or a big party, Jacob’s energy was always at the max, lifting the whole room.

It’s rare to find such a kind, loud, wild, generous, talented, ambitious, and pure soul all in one. I’m so grateful he was part of my life and journey.

Sending love and well wishes to Jacob’s friends and family. We all miss you, buddy—you’ll live on in our memories, and we’ll carry you always in our hearts.

I only knew him through the writings of his Grandfather, Fred Dawkins about their Camino Trail walk together.

Thank you for allowing us to celebrate Jacob and grieve with you today with such a beautiful ceremony. I especially appreciate your memories, openness, stories, and photos. They helped me remember him more fully. Thank you for broadcasting the service as well, it meant a lot to participate even from a distance. I spent the day remembering Jacob, celebrating him, and thinking of you all. I hope you are able to feel some peace in the days ahead, please know that we will be thinking of you.

We were so deeply saddened to learn of Jacob’s passing. He was a free spirit in every sense--full of adventure, energy and joy, with a boundless warmth and generosity. His spirit was truly infectious, and he left a lasting impression on everyone in our family who had the joy of knowing him. If I remember correctly Jacob was having a hard time staying still for our class picture.

Jacob and I were fast friends right from the start of JK. I have such fond memories of climbing trees together. Playdates at his house, adventuring down to the pond, getting stuck in mud and saving each other by finding an old dead stump. Such fun we had. Jumping on the trampoline he had, he'd always show off how her could backflip haha. The long talks we used to have, about life and family dramas. He was a good friend. As we got older our relationship grew complicated and different life choices made us grow apart. Though I always wished him love and happiness from a distance. I cherish our childhood adventures together.  Jacob had an infectious laugh. A willingness to help and an impish joy for finding trouble. He was funny and sensitive and was a highlight of my childhood. Jacob, you are missed. Love and light to the Wright family. You're all in my thoughts.

Jacob was a kind, gentle soul who would have protected anyone who was in the room. I got the privilege of spending time with him when we were in high school together. His heart and the way he cared for others mattered so much. ❤️ pouring one out for you, my friend.

My heart is with all of you, and Jacob will always be a key part of my childhood memories. I remember him smiling, excited, playful, mischievous, and generous! Always ready for fun and adventure.

I will always remember  that Jacob's eyes  smiled even before his mouth and face.  His eyes were like sunshine that was beaming out sending a message: "ready to have fun  with my classmates".  
 
 You know Kris, the working days you and I shared together in our school will always be very special in my heart. I honor the support you  both have given to your children and by extension to our school through the years and will think of those times very warmly.

I am very saddened by Jacob's death and am hoping Jacob's family feels supported by one another and by the community.
Jacob was a friend of my sons. I met him on a canoe trip in the summer of 2020. I remember Jacob as being full of energy and enthusiasm. He was very excited to see salmon, and to catch many many fish, which he cleaned without complaint. He and I were paired up one day in the heaviest canoe, paddling against the tide - I appreciated Jacob's strength and endurance, as well as his good humour.  I was also touched when Jacob expressed his sense of responsibility about protecting me from a grizzly we encountered.  Fortunately no protection was needed, but it was a generous sentiment. I admired Jacob's gumption in operating his own business, which he explained to me during our trip. Jacob struck me as a very genuine person who loved adventure and challenges.  I want Jacob's family to know that he made such a positive and lasting impression on me. I'm very sorry for your loss.

Although we are currently far away, Jacob always felt close. He had a way of making us smile and entertaining us from afar - we got a glimpse of his current life through Instagram, always taking up new challenges and like always pouring in all his energy. Recently, we liked to play the latest Jacobilly songs in our living room.

Jacob’s spirit was infectious - full of courage, adventure, and hard work. We will always cherish the memories of tree planting with Jacob and canoeing together in Ontario and BC. We were looking forward to introducing him to our newest family member on our visit to Ontario in December, and to chatting with him about his grandpa’s book we just finished reading.

Everything I read in preparing for walking the Camino advised to lighten your load and reduce what you think you will need. On the day we left Jacob arrived with a 60 pound pack and a newly acquired secondhand saxophone, wearing his much loved flowery shirt from tree planting with a big smile on his face. Jacob thought outside the box.  I think he would have carried me up a mountain on the way if I had struggled. Just being with him was enough.

We love you Jacob. I’m grateful for all the Incredible kid memories together. Of mirth, fun, impishness, sports and games, creativity. I’ll bring your memory with me to the wild places. May your spirit be free and darkness made into light. (Photos from Oliver’s parents)

Jacob loved our family farm and his many animal friends

Jacob was a fixture of my early tree planting years in Ontario. We were both rookies together and while it took me some time to get the hang of the work hard play hard lifestyle, Jacob dove in head first. He could pump up a crew of tired planters like no other with his playlist of bangers and fist pumping the school bus ceiling. His energy was infectious. 

Jacob seemed to always be one of the first awake in the camp alongside the cooks and he would greet everyone with “hello gorgeous” in his best Aussie accent as we stumbled out of our tents. Hard to not put a smile on your face after that.

Our deepest condolences to you and your family, as we grieve Jacob's sudden passing. 
Our hearts are broken along with all those who knew and loved him best, at his tragically premature end. 
Jacob fought his battle with mental illness courageously, just as fully as he lived his life. He made up for his short time here with an abundance of life lived to the max! Almost like he knew his time might be short, he worked hard, played harder, travelled extensively, loved and cherished his family and friends fully. He was always warm,  loving, good natured, generous and kind.
Jacob has left an indelible mark upon the hearts and lives of all who were blessed to have known him and called him our friend.

On our Camino - when Jacob saw this huge mountain of hay he had to climb it and then he called down ‘Hey Gramps, grab my phone and take a picture.’” When Jacob saw a challenge he attacked it. While he was up there three younger hikers came along and tried to join him.  They couldn’t even get off the ground. Impossible not to love him

Lots of long drives installing solar all over. Jake always had the music turned up all the way. I can still hear the ringing in my ears.

This was taken the day Powered Wright merged to Eco Grid with Ben Mazur. A good memory to remember the small team we had and all the memories running up on roofs and installing solar together in the blistering sun. Jake was faster and stronger than all of us. He sure made us competitive to be as fast as him. It was such a pleasure working with him and I remember the first time I spoke to him: it was a phone interview and we hadn’t met face to face yet. I didn’t have a home at the time and was staying at a friends. The first thing he did was offer his couch to me and I didn’t realize how special that was till I saw where he was living. You can see it too, it’s behind us in the photo! LOL. He had a heart of gold and was as tough as they get. A real man.
